How Much Does a Wix Website Cost in 2026? Plans + Design Costs
Bilal FaisalProject Manager & Lead Developer · 9 min readA Wix website costs between roughly $200 and $2,000 per year if you build it yourself, which covers a premium plan, a domain and a few paid apps. If you hire a professional, add one-time design and development costs that start around $500 for a simple site and run to $5,000 or more for an e-commerce site, a members area or custom Velo features. The total depends far more on what the site has to do than on Wix itself.
Key takeaways
- Wix's plan ladder in 2026 runs from Light through Core and Business to Business Elite, with Wix Studio on its own set of plans. Prices vary by country and billing term, so check Wix's pricing page for today's numbers.
- The plan is usually the smallest part of the bill. Apps, a domain, email and professional help are where cost adds up.
- DIY is cheap in cash and expensive in time. Expect 40–100 hours for a first-time build, and a fair chance you'll pay to have it rebuilt later.
- Professional Wix builds with us start from $500; e-commerce from $800; complex stores and custom features from $5,000.
We've quoted thousands of Wix projects since 2014. Here's the full picture, including the costs people forget.
The four parts of a Wix website cost
Every Wix site's cost breaks down the same way:
- Wix plan (monthly or annual subscription)
- Domain and email
- Apps and add-ons
- Design and development (your time, or someone you pay)
Let's take them one at a time.
1. Wix plan prices in 2026
Wix sells two plan ladders. Standard Wix plans apply to sites built in the Wix Editor; Wix Studio plans apply to Studio sites. Both include hosting, SSL and a free domain for the first year on annual plans.
| Plan | Who it's for | What you get (summary) |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Testing only | Wix subdomain, Wix ads on the site, no custom domain |
| Light | Personal or basic business site | Custom domain, 2 GB storage, 2 collaborators, no payments |
| Core | Most small businesses | 50 GB, 5 collaborators, accept payments, basic e-commerce |
| Business | Growing stores and service businesses | 100 GB, 10 collaborators, standard e-commerce |
| Business Elite | High-volume stores, larger teams | Unlimited storage, 100 collaborators, advanced e-commerce |
At the time of writing, annual-billing prices for these four tiers run from roughly $17 to $160 per month in the US, with monthly billing a few dollars higher. Wix Studio plans sit at similar price points with different limits on storage, collaborators and CMS items. Because Wix adjusts prices and runs regional promotions, treat those figures as orientation and confirm on Wix's current pricing page before budgeting.
Two things to know when choosing:
- You need at least Core to take payments. If you sell anything, whether products, bookings or digital downloads, Light won't do it.
- Storage limits are about video. 2 GB is plenty for images; it runs out quickly if you host video on Wix instead of embedding from YouTube or Vimeo.
2. Domain and email
- Domain: free for the first year with an annual plan, then typically $15–$25 per year through Wix. You can also connect a domain you bought elsewhere at no charge.
- Business email: Wix resells Google Workspace, starting around $6–$7 per user per month. You can also set up email with any provider by editing DNS records; it doesn't have to be bought through Wix.
- Privacy protection for the domain is sometimes an extra line item. Check whether it's included.
3. Apps and add-ons
This is where a "$29 a month" site becomes a "$90 a month" site. Common paid additions:
| App or add-on | Typical cost | Do you need it? |
|---|---|---|
| Wix-built apps (Stores, Bookings, Events, Forms, Blog) | Included with your plan | Yes, and they're free; don't pay for third-party versions of these |
| Review widgets, pop-ups, live chat, advanced forms | $5–$30 each per month | Sometimes; audit every six months and delete what you don't use |
| Wix Smart Chat (AI + manual chat) | Free to install; check current limits | Useful for lead capture; see how to add an AI chatbot to Wix |
| Email marketing (Wix or third-party) | Free tier, then $10–$50+ per month by list size | Depends on your marketing |
| Payment processing | Roughly 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction via Wix Payments (varies by country) | Unavoidable if you sell online |
| Wix Multilingual | Included | Only if you need more than one language |
Our rule for clients: zero paid apps at launch unless there's a measured reason. Add one when you can say what it's for and how you'll know it's working. Every app also adds page weight, which affects speed and SEO; see Is Wix good for SEO?
4. Design and development: DIY vs professional
Building it yourself
Cash cost: $0 beyond the plan. Time cost: substantial. Realistically, a first-time builder spends 40–100 hours getting a 10-page site to a state they're happy with, and the result often has the problems we see most on DIY sites: mobile layouts that break, slow pages from too many apps, no SEO setup, and a design that looks like the template it came from.
That's not a criticism. Wix is built so you can do this, and for a side project or a first version it's the right call. The hidden cost is opportunity: 60 hours of an owner's time is rarely free.
Hiring a freelancer
Freelance Wix designers on marketplaces charge anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a template customization to a few thousand for a full build. Quality and reliability vary a lot. If you go this route, check their portfolio on real live sites, confirm they build in Wix Studio, and get the scope in writing. We'll publish a full guide to hiring a Wix developer soon; until then, our hire a Wix developer page lists the questions we'd ask.
Hiring an agency
Agency pricing is higher than a freelancer's and buys you a team (designer, developer, QA), a process, and someone accountable when things go wrong. Here's what our projects cost:
| Project type | Wix Engine starting price | What's typically included |
|---|---|---|
| Wix website design or development (5–15 pages) | from $500 | Custom design in Wix Studio, responsive build, basic SEO setup, forms, launch |
| Wix e-commerce, simple store | from $800 | Wix Stores setup, product import, payments, shipping, tax, checkout testing |
| Wix e-commerce, complex | from $5,000 | Large catalogs, custom product options, integrations, custom checkout logic |
| Custom Velo features | from $500 per feature | Custom forms, filtered directories, calculators, API integrations, member portals |
| Classic Editor to Studio migration | from $350 | Audit, rebuild, data migration, redirects, cutover (see the migration guide) |
| Wix SEO | from $500 per month | Technical fixes, on-page work, content plan, reporting |
| Wix Headless build | from $2,000 | Custom Next.js front end on Wix's CMS, stores or bookings back end |
| Wix maintenance | from $99 per month | Plans at $99, $249 and $499 a month: update hours, backups, health checks, uptime and SEO monitoring |
| Hourly Wix development | $45 per hour, 40-hour minimum block | Fixes, small features and ongoing changes, with time logged per task |

What drives the price up (or down)
When we quote a Wix project, these are the factors that move the number:
- Number of unique page layouts. Ten pages that share three layouts cost far less than ten pages that are each designed from scratch.
- Content readiness. If you have final copy and images, we build. If we're writing copy, sourcing photography or designing a logo, that's extra scope (our logo design service starts from $500).
- E-commerce complexity. Product count, variants, shipping rules, tax regions, subscriptions.
- Custom functionality. Anything the editor and App Market can't do means Velo development: directories, calculators, CRM integrations, custom booking flows, member portals.
- Integrations. Connecting Wix to HubSpot, Salesforce, QuickBooks, a shipping provider or a custom API.
- Migration. Moving from another platform or from the Classic Editor adds audit, data transfer and redirect work.
- Timeline. Rush delivery costs more because it pulls people off other projects. With us, it adds 25% when it needs extra team capacity.
What doesn't drive the price up much: the Wix plan tier, the number of blog posts you add yourself later, or the choice of Studio over the Editor.
Three realistic budgets
Solo consultant, 6-page site, DIY-ready content. Core plan on annual billing, domain included year one, no paid apps. Professional build from $500. Year-one total: roughly $850–$1,200 plus the plan renewal thereafter.
Local service business with online booking, 12 pages. Business plan, Wix Bookings (free), one review widget, Google Workspace for two users. Professional build with custom booking flow: $1,500–$3,500. Year-one total: roughly $2,500–$4,800.
Online store, 150 products, custom product configurator. Business or Business Elite plan, Wix Stores, payment processing fees, email marketing. Professional build with Velo configurator and integrations: $5,000–$12,000. Year-one total: $6,500–$14,000 plus transaction fees.
These are illustrative ranges based on how we quote, not promises. Your project may be simpler or more involved.

FAQ
How much does Wix cost per month?
Wix premium plans run from roughly $17 to $160 per month on annual billing in the US, depending on the tier (Light, Core, Business, Business Elite), with Wix Studio plans priced separately. Prices vary by country and change periodically, so check Wix's pricing page for current figures. Most small businesses land on Core or Business.
Is Wix free?
Wix has a free plan, but it shows Wix ads, uses a wixsite.com subdomain and can't take payments. It's fine for testing or a personal page. Any business site needs at least the Light plan for a custom domain, and Core or higher to sell anything.
How much does it cost to hire someone to build a Wix website?
Freelancers range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Agency builds with Wix Engine start from $500 for a standard business site, $800 for a simple store and $5,000 for complex e-commerce or custom Velo features. The scope (page count, content, integrations, custom features) sets the price more than the platform does.
Are there hidden costs with Wix?
Not hidden, but easy to overlook: domain renewal after the free first year, business email, paid App Market apps, payment processing fees, and higher plan tiers as storage or sales grow. Budget for these up front and audit your apps every six months.
Is Wix cheaper than WordPress?
For a small business site, total costs are similar once you include WordPress hosting, premium themes, plugins and maintenance. Wix bundles hosting, security and updates into the plan; WordPress spreads them across vendors. Where WordPress often costs more is ongoing maintenance; where Wix can cost more is paid apps. Our WordPress development page covers when it's the better choice.
