Wix website migration is moving a site onto Wix from another platform, or from the Wix Classic Editor to Wix Studio, while keeping its content, functionality and search visibility. Because none of these moves is a one-click conversion, the work combines a rebuild, a content transfer and an SEO plan: URL mapping, 301 redirects, metadata and post-launch monitoring.
First, the honest part. Wix can't automatically convert a Classic Editor site into a Wix Studio site — its own help center says the site has to be rebuilt — and it doesn't import whole sites from other platforms. The one exception is an importer for WordPress blog posts. So every migration below is a planned rebuild plus a careful content and SEO transfer.
We rebuild your layout in Wix Studio with its responsive breakpoints, design system and CSS, then bring the content across: media from your Media Manager, blog posts through Wix's import from another Wix site, CMS collections by CSV export and import, and Velo code adapted to the new page structure. At launch, your premium plan and domain move to the new site. Analytics, tracking tools and SEO settings don't move with the plan, so we set them up again.
Wix has already updated every Editor X site to Wix Studio automatically, so there's nothing left to convert. What many of those sites need is cleanup: layouts built around Editor X habits, unused sections and styles that don't use Studio's newer tools. We audit and rebuild only what's worth it.
Wix's importer moves published WordPress posts — text, images, videos, dates, alt text and categories — up to 5,000 per import. Drafts, tags, author names, comments, embedded code and attached PDFs don't come across, so we handle those separately. Pages are rebuilt, custom post types become Wix CMS collections, WooCommerce products move to Wix Stores by CSV, and plugin features are replaced with native Wix tools or Velo code.
There's no direct importer from Squarespace, so we export what Squarespace allows, rebuild your pages, recreate products and blog posts, and match your URL structure wherever Wix permits. Where paths must change — Wix blog posts use a /post/ prefix by default, for example — every old address gets a 301 redirect.
Webflow CMS collections export to CSV and import into the Wix CMS, so structured content moves cleanly. Interactions are rebuilt with Wix Studio's animation tools, and class-based styles are recreated in Studio's design system and CSS.
We crawl the old site, export pages and links from Google Search Console, and build a spreadsheet mapping every old URL to its closest new page. Redirects go into the Wix URL Redirect Manager, one by one or by CSV in batches of up to 500.
Title tags, meta descriptions, headings, image alt text, social sharing tags and structured data are carried over page by page instead of left to defaults. Images move with descriptive file names, and forms and integrations are rebuilt and tested.
Sometimes the right move is off the editor. You can keep Wix as the backend behind a custom front end with Wix Headless development, or move to a fully coded site with our Next.js development services. The same mapping and redirect process applies.
Not every site should move. No. Wix doesn't offer an automatic conversion from the Classic Editor to Wix Studio; its help center says the site has to be rebuilt in the Studio Editor. Your media, blog posts, CMS data, domain and premium plan can all be carried across, so the rebuild is mostly design and layout work.
A well-planned migration keeps that risk low, but no one can honestly guarantee rankings. Lasting drops usually come from missing redirects, dropped content or lost metadata. Some movement is normal while Google recrawls the new site; we map every URL, carry over metadata and monitor Search Console after launch.
Use the URL Redirect Manager in your site's SEO settings. You can add redirects one at a time or import a CSV file of old and new URLs, up to 500 redirects per file. Point each old URL that has traffic or backlinks to its closest new page, not just the homepage.
Partly. Wix can import your published WordPress blog posts, including images, dates, alt text and categories, up to 5,000 posts at a time. Pages, design, plugins, comments, tags and drafts don't import, so those are rebuilt or moved by hand. Wix doesn't import complete sites from other platforms.
Wix retired Editor X and updated all Editor X sites to Wix Studio automatically, without taking live sites offline. You can't create new Editor X sites or switch an updated site back. If your site came from Editor X, it's already on Wix Studio, though it may benefit from a cleanup.
It depends on size. Most migrations take 1–3 weeks; a large site with a store, blog archive or custom code can take longer, plus monitoring after launch. Your proposal, sent within 24 hours of our call, includes a timeline for your specific site.
Yes. Your domain can stay with its current registrar and point to Wix, or transfer to Wix. Email runs on separate DNS records (MX, plus SPF, DKIM and DMARC), and we make sure those stay intact so your inbox keeps working through the switch.
Not with a migration tool. Wix doesn't offer one from the Classic Editor or Wix Studio to Harmony, its AI-assisted editor. Harmony also doesn't support Velo code, custom CSS or backend code, so sites with custom functionality should stay on, or move to, Wix Studio.
