What does a mobile app development company do?

A mobile app development company designs, builds, launches and maintains apps for iPhone and Android. That covers choosing the technology, UX and UI design, the app itself, the backend and APIs it talks to, app store submission, and updates after launch. Founders hire one to ship an MVP; established businesses hire one to bring their service to customers' phones.

iOS and Android app development services

React Native app development

One TypeScript codebase for both platforms, built with Expo for faster builds, simpler releases and over-the-air updates for JavaScript changes. A natural choice if your web product already runs on React, since skills and some logic carry over.

Flutter app development

Dart and Flutter for a consistent, highly custom UI on iOS and Android with smooth animations. A strong option for design-led apps and teams starting without an existing web codebase.

Native Swift and Kotlin apps

SwiftUI for iOS and Jetpack Compose for Android when you need deep platform features: advanced camera or Bluetooth work, home-screen widgets, watch apps, or heavy on-device processing.

MVP app development

A first version scoped to the one job your users need done, released to real users quickly with analytics in place, so you learn what to build next from data instead of guesses. We'll push back on features that can wait for version two.

Backend, APIs and admin panels

Node.js APIs or Firebase and Supabase backends, user accounts, file storage, payments and in-app subscriptions, plus a web admin panel for your team. Larger back offices are covered by our custom dashboard development service.

Push notifications and deep links

Targeted notifications through Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging, deep links that open the right screen, and preference controls so users stay opted in.

Offline-first apps

Local storage with SQLite and background sync, so field teams, travelers and anyone with patchy signal can keep working. Conflicts are resolved predictably when the phone reconnects.

App store submission

Developer accounts, signing certificates, store listings, screenshots, privacy disclosures and Google Play's data safety form, plus TestFlight and Play Console testing tracks. New personal Google Play developer accounts must run a closed test with at least 12 testers for 14 days before going live, and we plan that into the schedule.

Maintenance and OS updates

Apple and Google raise their requirements every year with new OS versions, SDK minimums and target API levels. Our maintenance plans keep your app compatible and accepted in both stores, with crash reports monitored and fixed.

React Native vs Flutter vs native: how to choose

React Native Flutter Native (Swift / Kotlin)
Codebases One for iOS and Android One for iOS and Android Two, one per platform
Language TypeScript / JavaScript Dart Swift and Kotlin
How the UI is drawn Uses each platform's native components Draws its own UI with its own rendering engine Platform UI toolkits (SwiftUI, Jetpack Compose)
Sharing with a web app High if the web app uses React Limited None
Best for Business apps, teams with React skills Custom, brand-heavy interfaces Hardware-heavy features, wearables, maximum performance
Relative build cost Lower (one codebase) Lower (one codebase) Higher (two codebases)

Both cross-platform options produce real apps that pass store review and feel at home on each platform. We recommend one after hearing your feature list, your team's skills and your plans for a web version.

Do you actually need an app?

Not every idea belongs in an app store. If customers visit occasionally, mostly to read, book or buy, a fast responsive website or progressive web app is cheaper to build and needs no store approval. Our web application development team can build that instead. An app earns its cost when people use it often, need push notifications, work offline, or rely on the camera, location or other device features.

Why choose Wix Engine as your mobile app development company

One team for the app, backend and website

We work across 50+ technologies, so the same team can build your app, its API, the admin panel and the marketing site. No hand-offs between three vendors.

Design included

Our UI/UX designers map user flows and build a clickable Figma prototype before development, so you test the experience while changes are still cheap.

Honest MVP scoping

We'd rather launch a focused first version that real users try than a bloated one that runs out of budget. You'll know what's in, what's out and why.

More than a decade of delivery

2,000+ projects delivered since 2014 for clients in 15+ countries.

Protected and in the loop

An NDA before you share your idea, email replies within 2–4 business hours, and test builds on your own phone throughout the project.

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?

Starts from
$5,000 (MVP) · $15,000 (full app)

Mobile apps with Wix Engine start from $5,000 for an MVP and $15,000 for a full app. A focused first version built around one core user journey sits at the lower end. Full apps add more user roles, integrations and polish.

What affects the price:

  • Approach one cross-platform codebase costs less than two native apps.
  • Screens and user roles a customer app plus a staff or driver app is two products.
  • Backend complexity real-time features, payments, subscriptions and admin tools.
  • Device features camera, maps, Bluetooth, offline sync and background tasks.
  • Ongoing costs Apple's Developer Program is $99 a year, Google Play has a one-time $25 registration fee, and hosting is billed separately.

Choose a fixed-price project for a defined scope, or a monthly retainer for continued development and maintenance, sized to the hours you need each month. Every launch includes 30 days of free fixes. We send an exact estimate within 48 hours of receiving your requirements.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?

Mobile apps with Wix Engine start from $5,000 for an MVP and $15,000 for a full app. The price depends on the number of screens and user roles, backend complexity, device features and whether you choose cross-platform or native. Store fees are separate: $99 a year for Apple and a one-time $25 for Google Play.

How long does it take to develop an app?

Timelines depend mostly on scope. A focused MVP takes 8–14 weeks; full apps take longer. Plan extra time for store review too: Apple often reviews within a day or two but can take longer, and new personal Google Play accounts need a 14-day closed test before release.

Should I choose React Native or Flutter?

Choose React Native if your web app uses React or you want to share code and developers with it. Choose Flutter if the app needs a highly custom, animation-heavy interface and you're starting without a web codebase. Both produce one codebase for iOS and Android, and both are mature, well-supported choices.

Can one app work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. With React Native or Flutter, one codebase produces a real app for each platform, which usually costs much less than building two native apps. Some platform-specific work is still needed for things like notifications, payments and store requirements, and we handle that as part of the build.

Do you publish the app to the App Store and Google Play?

Yes. We prepare the store listings, screenshots and privacy disclosures, submit the builds, and respond to reviewer feedback. We recommend publishing under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, so you own the listings, reviews and user data from day one.

Who owns the app and the source code?

You do. Once the project is paid in full, the source code, designs and store listings belong to you. We hand over the repository, credentials and documentation so any developer can continue the work, and we recommend publishing under your own developer accounts from the start.

Can you take over an app another developer built?

Yes. We start with a code and infrastructure audit covering dependencies, build setup, backend access, crash reports and store status, then explain what we found in plain language. Urgent fixes come first, then updates for current OS versions, then new features once the app is stable.

Do you offer maintenance after launch?

Yes. Monthly plans cover OS and SDK updates, crash monitoring and fixes, dependency upgrades and small improvements. Apple and Google change their requirements every year, and apps that aren't updated can eventually be hidden from new users or removed from the stores.
