OpenAI, Claude or Gemini: choosing a model
When people ask for "ChatGPT integration," they usually mean an OpenAI API integration: the developer service behind ChatGPT. It's a common choice, but not the only one.

Rankings shift with every model release, so we don't choose from a leaderboard. For a Claude API integration, an OpenAI build or a Gemini one, we first run your real tasks through two or three candidates and compare quality, speed and cost. A thin abstraction layer in the code means switching providers later is a configuration change, not a rebuild.
Data privacy and security
- Paid API tiers only. OpenAI, Anthropic and Google state that data sent through their paid APIs isn't used to train models by default. Free consumer chat apps work differently, so your staff shouldn't paste customer data into them.
- Keys stay on the server. API keys never appear in browser code where visitors could copy them.
- Send the minimum. We pass only the fields a feature needs and strip personal details where possible.
- Retention options. Providers keep API data for a limited period by default; some offer reduced or zero retention for eligible accounts.
- Regulated data. If a feature touches health, financial or other regulated data, tell us on the first call. We agree on the provider's data processing terms, retention and hosting region with you before anything is built.
Keeping AI costs under control
Models bill by tokens, roughly the words going in and out. Costs stay predictable when control is designed in from day one:
- Right-sized models — a small, inexpensive model for tagging; a larger one only where quality demands it.
- Caching — repeated questions reuse stored answers, and prompt caching cuts the cost of long shared instructions.
- Batching — non-urgent jobs, like rewriting thousands of product descriptions, run through providers' discounted batch APIs.
- Limits — maximum response length, per-user rate limits, monthly spend caps and alerts.
- Monitoring — cost per feature tracked, so you see what each AI feature costs to run.

AI chatbots integrated into Wix sites Canada Medical Notes and US Medical Notes are online medical-note services on Wix: patients request a note, a licensed provider reviews it and the note arrives by email the same day. We integrated a custom AI chatbot into each site with Velo and custom elements, working within the existing site rather than rebuilding it.

How do I integrate AI into my website?
You connect your site's backend to an AI provider's API, send it the content or question, and display the result, keeping API keys on the server. How much does OpenAI API integration cost?
There are two costs: the one-time build, which starts from $2,500, and ongoing API usage. Usage is billed by OpenAI per token, so it depends on traffic and how much text each request handles. We estimate both before you commit and add spending caps so monthly costs stay predictable.
Is ChatGPT integration the same as using the OpenAI API?
Mostly, yes. ChatGPT is OpenAI's consumer app; businesses integrate the same family of models through the OpenAI API. The API gives you control over instructions, data handling and costs, and lets the AI work inside your own interface instead of sending customers to a separate chat app.
Will AI providers train their models on our data?
Not by default on paid API tiers. OpenAI, Anthropic and Google state that data sent through their paid APIs isn't used for model training unless you opt in. Free consumer apps and some free tiers have different terms, which is why we build only on paid APIs and review current terms with you.
