AGOBAY: Artisan Shop, Magazine and Events for a Swiss-Japanese Lifestyle Brand

One Next.js site for a brand that sells handmade objects, publishes a magazine, films the makers behind its products and hosts tea and meditation experiences in Zurich.

Project snapshot

AGOBAY is a Swiss-Japanese lifestyle brand with a café and store in Zurich. We built a site where shopping, editorial content, films and events share one experience. A visitor can read a maker's story, watch their film and buy their work without feeling they've left one site for another.

The challenge

AGOBAY isn't a typical store. Its products (ceramics, tea tools, furniture, matcha) are made by named artisans, and the brand sells the story and the craft as much as the object. It also runs workshops, Zazen sessions and tea experiences, publishes a magazine and curates music playlists.

Splitting that across a shop platform, a blog and a booking tool would break the experience the brand is built on. The site needed:

  • One design language across shop, magazine, films and events, calm and image-led
  • A shop organized the way people browse craft: by maker, material, origin and theme, not just category
  • Maker stories with film, linked directly to the products each maker creates
  • Event pages that describe each experience and take bookings
  • Room to grow into new sections such as radio, publications and destinations

Our solution

A homepage that mixes every content type

The "What's New" carousel puts product launches, shop collections, radio playlists and magazine stories side by side. From the first screen, visitors see AGOBAY as one brand rather than a store with a blog attached.

An artisan shop with several ways in

The online shop offers All, New, Collections and Escapes views, plus filters for category, material and origin. Themed collections (Matcha, Traveling, Tea, Meditation, Dining, Coffee, Reading) let people shop by ritual. Every product has its own page, and the cart stays in the header across the whole site.

Craft-maker profiles and films

The Craft Makers section groups artisans by origin (Japan, Switzerland and Denmark). Each card carries a video preview and opens a profile page with the maker's story and film. Films on Japanese craftspeople (potters, divers, dyers, futon makers, bamboo artisans) also run through the magazine.

Editorial magazine

The magazine publishes long-form stories on makers, guesthouses and destinations, tea rituals and upcoming experiences, each with its own article page.

Experiences and event pages

The experiences page lists workshops, Zazen sessions and tea rituals with All, New and Past filters. Each event page sets out the location, price and group size, and includes a "Book your place" section that loads upcoming dates.

Supporting sections

The site also covers AGOBAY Radio playlists, publications, masterclasses, furniture, a curated "Sanctuaries" travel section, store and café pages for Zurich and Lisbon, and site-wide search.
